Happy New Year, friends!!! It’s hard to believe that it’s year two thousand seventeen!
I know a lot of people were glad to see 2016 go, but a little bit of me was sad that it ended. In 2016, I started a new job as a 7th/8th grade math teacher, traveled to Europe (see the posts here, here and here), second shot so many beautiful weddings, was the Matron of Honor in my sister’s wedding (see her bridals and wedding day behind-the-scenes), and road tripped to the East Coast ( Savannah and Charleston). Unfortunately 2016 brought a great sadness to our family in the way that we lost my grandmother in June. It happened the exact same night I returned home from Europe and while we are still very sad, I can’t help but be thankful that the reason I was even able to go to Europe was due to an extremely generous gift she gave me last year for Christmas.
Now that it’s officially 2017, I’ve been thinking about my resolutions for this new year and in the past, I’ve been so focused on building me, my business and my brand and not even realizing how burned out I’ve become and how much I’ve sacrificed in terms of quality time with my husband or relaxing on the weekends. So these are my goals for 2017
1. Minimize our stuff. Our house is a tiny 1200 square foot house and we have this amazing ability to accumulate stuff. For example, I opened my bathroom cabinets this morning and saw about 6 full bottles of lotion on the shelf- how does that even happen?? Half the time, I have no idea where it comes from! This year I want to be more intentional with what we are buying, think it through about where it will go and if it’s something we really and truly need. I’m hoping this will also translate into more savings =)
2. Spend more time outside. I LOVE the outside- hiking, climbing, swimming, kayaking, picnicking, etc. I want to get out and about in our beautiful state and see what all it has to offer!
3. Shoot for me. This past year, I’ve really limited my clients and sessions and in fact didn’t even offer mini sessions this fall. I am still shooting on occasion, but I want to do more stylized shoots, more detail shots, couple/bridal shoots and shoots that push me out of my comfort zone.
4. Revamp our house. Let’s be honest, we have a room that is brown (yes, an UGLY brown), a room that is still hunter green and all rooms have tan ceilings (at least all the popcorn has been scraped away!). Our 1943 house is so cute and I absolutely love our neighborhood and our goal is to stay in it as long as we can, but we really need to update and redecorate. I want to paint the walls, ceilings, and a few pieces of furniture. I’m hoping 2017 brings the motivation and inspiration needed to get it done!
So there you have it. I think these goals are pretty attainable and I can’t wait to get started! Before we officially start on this year, let’s revisit some great memories from 2016:
